Boveda technology works extremely well for cigar storage, keeping them fresh and prime for longer, without the need to re-fill or monitor. Controlling the outside environment is vital for the well-being of cigars and fine tobacco products. If cigars become too dry, the smoke can become harsh and inhibits a burnt-like after taste. Too humid, and the smoke is thick and "grassy" with an un-even burn. Cigar storage is now made simple with Boveda packs for cigars. We do not recommend using jars to store cigars because they may chip and break at the ends it stands on. With that being said, simply place a 62% or 69% Boveda pack (depending on ones smoking preference; both work great) in the cigar box, bag and or humidor for optimum results.

"Like fine wine, cigars are natural products that live, breathe and age. They’re loaded with natural oils and sugars that provide all the character, flavor and foundation for improving with age. In fact, we even speak of the marriage of the wrapper, binder and filler, where the respective oils and sugars contribute to a harmonious whole."

Just like fine wine, cigars get better with age. The oils and sugars from the tobacco leaf produce different flavors and aromas as they cure throughout time. Cigar aging is a common practice and in fact some world class Cuban cigars have been known to be aged for over 40 years! However, 40 years is not common and most cigar smokers will agree that 20 years is about the maximum time one should age their cigars.

Keeping the humidity levels constant is vital for cigar aging. The tobacco leaves cannot cure properly and will become stale without keeping them at a constant humidity of 60%-70% (preferred). And most convincing is that the new Boveda packets last 2 full months in a cigar box opened often, all the way to a year or more if not opened often. This results in the freshest smoke guaranteed each and every time.

How do I choose the right number of Boveda?

The Boveda manufacturer suggest using at least one 60 gram Boveda per 25 cigars your humidor holds, even if it isn’t full. It’s still air space and wood that needs proper humidification. And because Boveda will never over-humidify beyond the number on the pack, using more than is recommended will just work more efficiently and need to be replaced less often. So with Boveda, you can never buy more than you need.
